Most suburbs have great access to very nearby stops and shelters. Taxis are available 24 hours a day with prepaid late night fares requested between 12 am and 6 am.
TIP:Outer Melbourne areas run on less active timetables, but a great trick is to take a smartphone image of the public transport timetable on your phone to reference at any time so you never get stuck.
Finding Your Way Around.
Melbourne is fairly straightforward in the way our streets run, and the CBD runs on a grid format. If you do happen to get lost, stop in at a 7-11 store or fuel station and ask to see the stores copy of the City’s map book ‘Melways’. You can buy your own Melways for around $45 at any newsagency.
Toll Roads.
The most effective way to travel from one side of the city to the other is to use Melbourne’s toll roads. You cannot pay the toll in person or in cash as it is a fully electronic service and uses registration plate recognition and eTag devices to track paying traveller’s usage. You can purchase three-day passes or full time passes to make travelling easier and faster.
